Leonard

Leonard the Rottweiler is a rescue dog. He came from animal control in a small town in Iowa. He was picked up as a stray when he was about a year old - he was found at a schoolyard playing with the children. The animal control of that county had a strict policy that ALL dogs of certain breeds (Rottweilers, Chows, Pit Bulls) must be euthanized and not put up for adoption ever. But the vet in charge recognized what a nice temperament this dog has, and they called us to please come get him. We were only going to foster him and then find him a nice forever home, but we got attached and kept him!

Leonard loves people of all ages but especially kids. He is a certified Delta PetPartner, which means he has passed a rigorous temperament test. PetPartners undergo training to visit in hospitals, nursing homes, schools. For more information on Delta programs, see www.deltasociety.org

Leonard is very loving and sweet, but has a very rough play style with other dogs. His best playmates are dogs who are not intimidated and who also like to play roughly, like Labs or other Rotties. He can be very gentle also - he gets along fine with our Whippets, and he lets our elderly Chihuahua boss him around.
