Gone, but not forgotten...

These are our beloved dogs who have gone on to doggie heaven. Their spirits will always be with us.

Gizmo

We lost our Gizmo July 13, 2004, when we had her euthanized. She had seizures during the night. She had become elderly and frail and we did not want to let her suffer. We wish we knew her real age. When our friend Julie found Gizmo, the vet estimated her age then to be between 5 and 8 years. We had her almost 11 years, so she was between 16 and 19 - an old lady.

Gizmo was our first toy dog. She was only 4.5 pounds but she made her presence known. We never intended to have such a small dog - I've always been more of a big dog person. But Gizmo was such a personality and a joy to us. She introduced us to all the fun of having a tiny dog. And the trouble too -- we had to always be with her outside since she could slip through a crack in the gate, plus we worried that a hawk might carry her off. Gizmo was allowed to sleep on the bed - a definite first in our house. She went almost everywhere with us.

Gizmo ruled over our other dogs even though she was so tiny. It was funny to see our big Rottweiler Leonard wait until Gizmo granted him permission to come through the doorway. Leonard was very tolerant of Giz. Even though Giz got along well with our two Rottweilers and two Whippets, we always crated her when we were going to be gone. With such difference in sizes it is important to err on the side of caution.

Gizmo was a wonderful therapy dog, and in her younger years she would come to work with me at the hospital. She would seek out people who needed attention, and give them a reason to smile. I have memories of her riding on laps in wheelchairs. It is comforting to know that she brought happiness to people.

Gizmo, we will always hold you dear in our hearts.

"Kirby"

U-CDX Wegner's Pepperoni UD FDCH FCh(ASFA) CGC ASCA-CDX

5-2-95 to 5-12-04

Kirby passed over the Rainbow Bridge way too soon. He was only nine. He suffered severe seizures from idiopathic encephalitis. He only lived three months after diagnosis. Kirby was a wonderful Whippet and he taught me so much. Together we did competitive obedience, flyball, lure coursing, and dabbled in agility.

Kirby had obedience titles from three different registries (American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club, Australian Shepherd Club of America), a lure coursing championship from the American Sighthound Field Association, a flyball championship, and passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. One of our proudest moments was when Kirby achieved his UD obedience title -- trained with positive methods.

Kirby was my shadow. Even outside, he always had to keep me in sight, and would come running to check out what I might have in my pockets. I will always miss you, dear boy.
