Chester
Just a few days after we sadly had to euthanize our little Gizmo, a new
Chihuahua came into our lives. My husband, Doug, missed Gizmo so much that
he felt he wanted to adopt another dog, and after Gizmo he really wanted
another Chihuahua.
A good friend of ours who works at the
Nebraska Humane
Society said that they had a Chihuahua up for adoption, so we went to
look. We fell in love with a 6 pound blond sweetheart. He is about three
years old, and was picked up as a stray.
We named him “Chester” after a character in the old Gunsmoke TV show. Our
Chester has bilateral patella luxation, which means that his kneecaps are
in the wrong position. He cannot use his rear legs very well. We decided
to do surgery – Dr Pettit here in Fremont has done many of these surgeries
with a high success rate. The surgeries will be done on each knee about
six months apart, and after rehab we hope Chester will be able to bend his
knees and walk and run normally. Rehab with a tiny dog is much easier than
with a big dog – Chester will be able to swim in the bathtub!
Chester loves people and is good with other dogs once he gets to know
them. He is more mellow than some Chihuahuas and I am hoping he will
become a therapy dog in the future.
We are enjoying our new little guy.
